#NotTheCost: NDI to stop violence against women in politics

Violence is not the cost of politics. That is the driving principle of the National Democratic Institute’s (NDI) campaign to stop violence against women in politics. While gender equality in political life has significantly grown in the past few decades with the increasing number of women leaders, officials, activists and voters, women are experiencing rising levels of harassment, intimidation and physical and sexual violence. This violenve is a major obstacle to women’s political participation and thus democracy. Reaffirming that this is ‘not the cost’ of doing participating in politics, NDI is organizing a conference during which a global call to action to stop violence against women in politics will be launched.
